Interview with the course planner

The courses are ready for 25manna 2024.  Joakim Skärlén, Haninge SOK is the course planner.

How has it gone with the course planning?

It’s been going well, I’ve scouted 25-manna courses in Rudan since I started laying courses in my youth and then mainly for our competition Haningenatten. The main problem is that it’s my home forest, so I’ve had to turn the map upside down to find new paths and ideas on courses. You easily end up in the same lane as previous competitions. Otherwise, Rudan is a small area where you have to work a little to get around 25 routes.

What would you say is typical for the terrain?

Definitely the details but also the fast-paced parts which are some of my favorite areas.

Do you have any tips to the runners?

I have a saying from my youth “Råhäng” (don’t read the map, just follow!) . It is exactly the opposite of what you should focus on, because there will be route choices to look for. A3 is a large map. I believe in doing your own race and daring to change pace and you will find the right way.

What is your background as a planner? Have you done something similar before?

I started as a youth planning the tracks for the club’s night competition and since then there have been many national competitions. I should have planned the 25-manna in 2019, but Lars Greilert had to step in since the competition suddenly had to change arena. I therefore had a sense of revenge when I accepted this year’s edition. It is role models like Lars who inspire to try and implement projects of this dignity, I thank him.

What do you think will be the most fun with 25-manna in 2024?

On the 12th of October I will roll around the arena and enjoy the atmosphere that is on relays, it’s something extra. But above all, meet the runners at the finish line and watch the competition live from the forest. Maybe it will be as exciting as in 2014 in Rudan. May the best club win!
